Choose Your Shadowsocks-Libev Variant

Shadowsocks-Libev supports two obfuscation plugins on our platform. Select the one that matches your network conditions and browsing needs. Both variants offer the same high-speed backend with different traffic disguise techniques.

Plugin OBFS TLS

  • Speed up to 10 Gbit
  • Works on all devices and OS
  • OBFS TLS plugin
  • Unlimited bandwidth

Plugin OBFS HTTP

  • Speed up to 10 Gbit
  • Works on all devices and OS
  • OBFS HTTP plugin
  • Unlimited bandwidth

What Is Shadowsocks-Libev?

Shadowsocks-Libev is a lightweight implementation of the Shadowsocks proxy protocol, written in C for maximum efficiency. It is one of the most widely used Shadowsocks variants thanks to its small footprint, low resource consumption, and broad compatibility across operating systems and client applications.

One of the standout features of Shadowsocks-Libev is its support for the SIP003 plugin system. This allows the core protocol to be extended with external plugins such as OBFS, which add obfuscation layers to disguise your traffic as regular web browsing. This is what makes Shadowsocks-Libev especially useful on networks that actively inspect and block proxy traffic.

OBFS TLS vs OBFS HTTP: Which Should You Choose?

Both plugins are designed to disguise your traffic, but they mimic different types of network activity. Choosing the right one depends on the type of network you are on and how it filters traffic.

When to Choose OBFS TLS

OBFS TLS makes your traffic look like a standard HTTPS session. Since HTTPS is universally allowed on almost every network, this variant blends in extremely well. If you frequently connect to networks that use deep packet inspection (DPI) and selectively allow only HTTPS, OBFS TLS is usually the more reliable choice.

When to Choose OBFS HTTP

OBFS HTTP makes your traffic resemble plain HTTP requests. This is useful on older networks or systems where HTTP traffic is common and expected. If HTTPS connections are throttled or blocked for any reason, OBFS HTTP can sometimes succeed where OBFS TLS fails.

Summary

In most modern environments, OBFS TLS is the safer default because HTTPS is the dominant protocol on the web today. OBFS HTTP remains useful as an alternative when you need to mimic older traffic patterns. If you are unsure, start with OBFS TLS and only switch to OBFS HTTP if you encounter connection problems.
